This winter session has my heart.

This beautiful threesome are family friends of ours. My family spends a lot of time at Castle Mountain Resort, a winter wonderland ski resort near Pincher Creek, AB. I've photographed the Hessions three times and all of those sessions have been at Castle Mountain.

The first time was taking newborn photos of this sweet boy. I had no idea what I was doing, I just knew I liked photographing babies. As a thank you gift for the photos, momma bought me a book on newborn photography, which I credit with jumpstarting my photography passion. I read that book from cover to cover with a highlighter in one hand and a pen in the other, jotting down all my dreams in the margins to start a photography business some day.

I next photographed them a year later as a family, which was my first time shooting a winter session and I loved the results. It's not hard to get people to snuggle in close when it's cold outside! Now, two years later, we gathered again in our favourite place to capture these images of the cutest three-year-old and the people who love him most.

Boppa and Nanma were visiting all the way from Ottawa for a few days so we started the session getting cozy with them, then broke off to shoot the photos below as a threesome. The weather was perfect, the location was stunning, and this family is beyond photogenic. I have so many favourite images it was hard to choose which to share here but you can see our full adventure in the slideshow video above. So much cozy goodness, a fun break with a thermos of hot chocolate, and lots of doggy snuggles made for a truly fun hour shooting in the great outdoors.

Thank you, Hession family, for allowing me to capture your family connection once again and for all the support over the last three years. It's a beautiful thing.
